What
We are

The Sunergos Training Network is a ministry of Western Seminary’s Center for Pastoral Flourishing for pastors and ministry leaders. We are directed by three distinctives in order to accomplish a single purpose. Those three distinctives are:

enhance@4x.png

1

To enhance personal character

equip@4x.png

2

To equip professional competencies

3

To promote ministerial collegiality

These three distinctives undergird our purpose of seeing the sustainable ministerial flourishing of pastors and ministry leaders.

The primary vehicles through which our purpose is accomplished is through bi-annual seminars that bring together ministry practitioners and connect them with one another and provide relevant, meaningful, teaching for sustainable ministry. Additionally, we provide articles and audio resources, and connect you with other resources at Western Seminary that share our distinctives and purpose.

Our
Story

2008

The Sunergos Training Network, though a new ministry of Western Seminary to pastors and church leaders, has a long history. Sunergos began over twelve years ago as The Spurgeon Fellowship. The aim was to enhance the personal character and professional competencies of pastors in order to contribute to the renewal of local congregations. Spurgeon sought to accomplish this by bringing together local pastors and church leaders for single-day events and retreats to learn from some of the best ministry practitioners on relevant issues and topics for pastoral ministry. Additionally, Spurgeon was an opportunity for fellowship between pastors and ministry leaders from across the Pacific Northwest.

2018

Events in 2018 allowed The Spurgeon Fellowship to pause and think about the future and ask, how might this ministry of Western Seminary contribute to seeing pastors and church leaders flourish even more. Thus, The Spurgeon Fellowship became The Sunergos Training Network (STN). Sunergos began to operate under Western Seminary’s Center for Pastoral Flourishing (CPF). Sunergos, while still providing content for pastors and ministry leaders through events as was the custom for Spurgeon, now will seek to ever expand its offerings to include written material and more intensive and focused seminars to not only enhance the personal character and professional competencies of pastors, but moreover to see them flourish in their respective ministry contexts.
